It is a common tree species in southwest China and is mostly seen on riverside roads. Its tree canopy is widely spread, and the slab roots can extend to dozens of meters; the trunk has pillar roots and has a DBH of 3-5 meters.
The Ancestral Temple of the Three Sus is home to one Banyan tree under municipal-level Class I protection and two Banyan trees under municipal-level Class III protection.
